Accelerating Africa’s Adaptation to Climate Change

Our Model

AAI works collaboratively with African and global partners in the public, private and development sectors to drive Africa to change and own its adaptation narrative on the global stage.

AAI works across four pillars:

  1. Enhancing Climate Information Services
  2. Strengthening policies and institutions
  3. Boosting on-the-ground action
  4. Increasing access to and mobilising climate finance and investments

Our approach builds the knowledge and capacity of all African stakeholders to accelerate adaptation action, enables political advocacy at the highest levels towards meeting adaptation challenges, and develops high-potential, large-scale adaptation programs to translate political pledges into action that addresses challenges.

Impact on the Ground

AAI supports several flagship programs across Africa:

  • Ecoverse Program- a highly scalable program that builds and develops climate-smart villages across Africa, starting with a prototype in Togo.
  • The Food Security Accelerator- an initiative strategically designed to invest in climate-adaptive food system solutions, particularly nature-positive, adaptation-centric businesses in Africa's emerging and frontier markets.
  • The Adaptation Finance Academy- a comprehensive and ambitious capacity-building effort to increase the ability of African stakeholders to develop large-scale, highly effective adaptation programs and mobilize climate finance. [Read more]

AAI receives guidance and support from African and international leadership and works at the highest political levels. Our partners include the African Union, Environment and Climate Change Canada, the European Commission, the U.S. Department of State, the UN Capital Development Fund, the UN Development Programme, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
