What’s in store for the AAI in 2022? The Technical Expert Group members provide recommendations

The Africa Adaptation Initiative (AAI) is implementing the project Enhancing Knowledge and Evidence to Scale-Up Climate Change Adaptation in Africa supported by the EU and UNDP. The Technical Expert Group (TEG) of this project which includes representatives of the European Union, the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA), the AAI Champion, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) met on February 25, 2022, and provided advice and recommendations for the planned activities for this year. Key activities include:

  • In addressing adaptation finance and capacity gaps on the continent, the AAI will be launching series of trainings to expand capacity to utilize climate risk information and assess and implement risk transfer mechanisms.
  • In enhancing adaptation knowledge in Africa, the AAI is collaborating with a team of experts, researchers and advisors on the State of Adaptation in Africa report focusing on the drivers of successful adaptation in Africa, including adaptation finance and technology. The report will be a synthesis of available research and complement existing reports, providing valuable recommendations for African policy makers, negotiators and beyond.
  • In fostering regional dialogues, the AAI will be convening South-South exchange fora and advance the African hub for sharing good practices and lessons learned from adaptation action on the ground.

Recognizing the significance of this year’s UN Climate Change Conference in Egypt (UNFCCC COP27), the AAI is working with its partners to ensure that the COP27 is not only a COP in Africa but truly a COP that advances climate adaptation for the people of Africa.
